Hemel en Aarde zijn naamloos geboren;
noemen is enkel de moeder der dingen.
Wie geen verlangens koestert, aanschouwt hun mysterie;
wie wel verlangens koestert, aanschouwt hun gedaante.
De twee zijn in wezen hetzelfde;
pas dan krijgen ze elk een eigen naam.
We zouden beide een mysterie kunnen noemen
en nog geheimzinniger is de poort aller mysteriën.
